Living 24 X 7

They say, when someone is not getting a job, they join the profession called ‘Sales’. A 24X7 duty hours. Sudden intimation of official tours which you can’t avoid. Always under pressure. In month beginning, pressure of reports. In mid-month, review meetings (ass f%$#ing sessions) and branch visits. In month end, target and payment collection pressure.
In fact many parents don’t prefer their daughters to be married to sales guys too! The reason they provide probably is that these guys are incapable of spending quality time with their families.
Well, perceptions are very difficult to change. But, this article is just an effort to change the perception.
Today, more and more qualified professionals are avoiding this profession because this job is not a regular 9 to 5 job. The perception is that 9 to 5 job allows them to have enough time to socialize. Well, we, the unfortunate sales guys, feel a demand in the industry due to this. And yes, unlike others who socialize after 5, we socialize every now and then. Everyday we meet new personalities. Everyday, we make new contacts. While people from other profession bind themselves in a circle of defined friends, we have an circle of indefinite radius.
Facing rejections. Its a very difficult task indeed. We all have expectations from someone or other. When that is not fulfilled, it hurts. But not when the guy is from sales profession. We face rejections every other day. We face ignorance, rather severe ignorance every other day. We are masters in ignoring ignorance and rejections.
Ability to manage in crisis situation is another indispensable quality of a sales guy. Always managing something or other. If one solution is not working, there is always another way out!!! That’s what we believe. That’s what we follow. No matter what the situation is, we always know that we can overcome that.
We handle the most severe of pressures everyday. On every month end, we face the fear of losing our only source of income. Still, we know how to smile while talking to a customer. We know, how to make others work. How to arrange things keeping ourselves calm.
We know how to calm down a dissatisfied angry person. Be it customers; be it someones else.
Tell me which other profession enables you to learn so many diversified subjects. We have a practical knowledge of many subjects. Be it taxation, be it balance sheet, be it economics, be it engineering, be it PR. We learn it all. The best part is I’ve seen many aged sales guys who never cease to learn new things every day!!! We make new strategies everyday as per the changing need.
We score the highest in the metric of adaptability. Rain or storm, heat or cold, nothing stops us. You change the condition, we change the route, aiming for the same destination.
Life is never only about sitting in air conditioned room while working from 9 to 5 and then going out to socialize with people with whom you are comfortable. Its also about working under the scorching sun, socializing with all sorts of people. Its about living 24X7. Its about being prepared for the worst and handling the same. Its about the taste of success after each struggle. Its not about the knowledge what books teach us, its about what life itself teaches us.

    Bhalo likhechis….but you forgot to mention that the remuneration sales guys get when they turn a deal is quite high…;)

    That is not generic. That's specific from place to place, company to company, industry to industry. Incentive is based on position and seniority. And yes, its usually target based 🙂
    Anyways, hard work should pay more. What say?
